The Court of Appeal ruling in the Jaffray case, which has pitted a small group of Names against Lloyd's since early 1997, is now expected to be made on Friday, 26 July 2002.

The dispute started after the Names, led by Sir William Jaffray, refused to accept a Lloyd's offer to settle their 1992 and prior losses with the market.

They claimed that Lloyd's had mislead them about the potential size of the market's asbestos liabilities when it encouraged them to invest. The liabilities almost bankrupted Lloyd's in 1992.

Lloyd's won the original case in November 2000. The case went to the Court of Appeal in March this year and the Appeal decision is now expected on Friday.
