Legal & General (L&G) has signed an agreement with Crawford & Co to use its new claims system, Stream.
L&G is the first insurer to sign up but at least four other insurers will be on board by the end of the year, according to Crawford.
The bespoke system will receive L&G's domestic claims, as XML, and input them straight into Crawford's claims system. Phase two will see Crawford able to send back information to Legal & General electronically in the same way.
By providing a direct link from one system to the other means L&G's claims handlers can input claims data direct at source which helps speed up the claims process and improve the accuracy of the data recorded, according to Crawford.
Stream is an in-house designed interface to Crawford's claims system that currently receives new instructions and updates and will soon be returning data in many different electronic formats, to and from clients.
Crawford's Stream has been designed to handle high-volume, low-value claims. It is available to insurers or any other party currently instructing Crawford.
