Christopher Symons QC specialises in insurance and reinsurance sectors

Lloyd’s Council has appointed Christopher Symons QC as president of Lloyd's Appeal Tribunal for a term of three years.

Symons’ position will be part time, with the tribunal sitting only when required.

In addition to his work as a QC, Mr Symons sits as a deputy high court judge and has extensive experience as an arbitrator. His areas of specialism include insurance/reinsurance and general commercial and financial services law. He also has recent Lloyd's experience.

Mr Symons replaces Richard Southwell QC and Howard Page QC, whose terms of office on the Appeal Tribunal have expired.

The Council also appointed Lord Alex Carlile QC to the Lloyd's Enforcement Board. Lord Carlile will take over as the Board's chairman in 2011.

Lord Carlile has a very extensive criminal law background in particular specialising in commercial fraud and serious crime. He is also a chair of the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
