Backchat has discovered one more addition to the array of famous and infamous people who dallied in the world of insurance before finding their fortunes elsewhere.

Hot on the heels of the (ahem) much-loved former Mirror editor Piers Morgan, who dabbled in underwriting at Lloyd's in his youth, Backchat has discovered that gargantuan tenor Luciano Pavarotti also had a brief sojourn in the insurance industry.

Apparently, the man known affectionately as Big Lucy was an insurance salesman in Italy before launching himself into opera.

"All that speaking damaged my voice," he said of his brief insurance career.
