It wouldn't surprise Backchat if the levels of divorce were slightly higher in insurance than other industries - if comments made last week are anything to go by.

Anthony Hilton, financial editor of the Evening Standard, while chairing the Profitable Business Growth conference, suggested that the dangers of mergers and acquisitions were like those found in the holy union between a man and a woman. "You tend to only find out about the other partner when it's too late," he quipped.

Backchat wonders whether the appeal of acquisition and mergers will lessen as a result of his comments.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
