The title of deputy chairman of Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance sounds very grand, and no doubt keeps the stock market happy.

But Backchat is interested in finding out what exactly the position entails.

By all accounts Martin Long, who has this title, will be required to spend large amounts of time in his Spanish villa and to turn up at the odd meeting in London.

This might be considered important enough, except Backchat learns, that at one recent meeting no one bothered to tell the deputy chairman of a change of venue. Whoops.

Still with a £50m payout you could afford to miss more than just a few meetings.
