Aggregator's director of insurance said he wanted to leave "on a high note."

Moneysupermarket.com director of Insurance, Richard Mason, has resigned after eight years with the company.

Mason waged verbal battles against anti-aggregator direct insurers and those calling for more regulation and helped turn Moneysupermarket.com into the number one motor insurance price comparison site in the UK.

Mason said he made the decision about a month ago but only announced it to Moneysupermarket.com last week.

He said he has already been offered four jobs from both insurance contacts and competing aggregator sites.

Mason, who was one of the original employees of Moneysupermarket.com, said following a slew of successes including snatching the crown from Confused.com as the biggest motor insurance price comparison site in the UK, he decided the time was right to leave.

He said: "I wanted to leave on a high note. I felt I had done all I could do."

Mason, who has profited well from shares in Moneysupermarket, said he plans to take some time off to spend with his family and twins, who were born around the time of the price comparison site’s launch.

He said that in the eight years he has been involved in the market, he has seen motor insurance aggregators go from a seemingly hair-brained idea to a thriving success that has virtually transformed the market.

“If you look today at how the industry has been transformed, it’s pretty satisfying,” he said.
