PRI's Peter Matson has resigned as chief underwriting officer, following the insurer's takeover by Brit.

Matson will formally leave the company on 30 September. A PRI statement described his resignation as "entirely amicable".

Matson revealed that following the Brit takeover there is "no meaningful near term role" for him at the operation.

Matson said: "When we launched PRI it was by far the largest-ever AIM flotation and the management team was determined to deliver a successful merger to its new owners. Now that hand-over process is complete - ahead of schedule."

Brit chief executive Neil Eckert said: "The PRI acquisition is a significant element of our plan to establish ongoing leadership in the UK SME commercial insurance sector. The professionalism of Peter Matson and his team have been instrumental in helping us make great strides in delivery of that strategy. We wish him every success for the future."
