Charles Ingram, the former Army major convicted of cheating on quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, has been found guilty of insurance fraud.

Ingram, 40, of Easterton, Wiltshire, was found guilty of two charges of deception relating to two house contents insurance policies placed with Zurich Municipal and Direct Line, said a report. He had denied the charges.

Ingram was found not guilty of five other fraud charges, but was convicted on two charges of obtaining by deception and making a claim on a falsely obtained policy. A jury at Bournemouth Crown Court took more than seven hours to reach a verdict.

He had claimed for £30,000 after a burglary at his home in August 2001, but had failed to tell his insurance company about his previous claims history when applying for the policy, the report said.

After the hearing, a spokesman for Wiltshire Police said all the offences had occurred before the recording of the episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in which Ingram appeared.

Judge Samuel Wiggs adjourned the case for sentencing until 21 November and Ingram was released on bail.
