Executives at Misys are running the rule over rival software house Sectornet, according to sources.

Senior software industry sources said the speculation coincides with the departure of Sectornet business development director James Sharp, who left on 30 June.

Sectornet sales and marketing director Ken Jarratt confirmed Sharp's departure, but denied the company was in talks with Misys.

Sources said Sectornet, which provides systems for commercial lines brokers, would be a good fit with Misys, which is strong in personal lines. "Misys was looking at 24 7 as well," one source said. "It seems to be interested in buying something. Sectornet would complement it very well."

A Misys spokeswoman said the company did not comment on market speculation.

Marlow-based Sectornet, which changed its name from MCS last year, split from MCS Global in a demerger in 2001. In the year ended November 2002, it recorded profit before tax of £559,000 on revenue of £6m. At that time its customer base was around 4,500.
