NIG is to launch aweb-based motorcycle quote engine at the end of March.

The new system will enable brokers who only occasionally handle motorcycle business to avoid incurring the expense of electronic data interchange (EDI) quote engines.

An NIG spokesman said the quote engine is internet-based and brokers will be able to phrase the quote they receive and issue a cover note. They will then e-mail details of the quote to NIG.

The next development phase of the motorcycle quote engine will be point-of-sale documentation, which NIG hopes to launch later this year.

The new engine replaces the paper guides, the method previously used to calculate quotes, which NIG scrapped last year.

"It will be rolled out to all our brokers, who will be able to access the engine through the NIG extranet," said the spokesman.

"We've demonstrated the engine at broker roadshows and we received a very good response."

"It's good for brokers who only occasionally handle motorcycle business as they won't have to pay for an EDI quote engine."
