Court hearing for ex-Indie staff
Independent Insurance's ex-staff expect to have their test case heard by an employment tribunal next year.

Hundreds of former Independent staff have claimed unfair dismissal and lack of consultation prior to dismissal, relating to their redundancy in June.

Phil Angus, one of the leaders of the ex-Independent action group, said the redundant staff were optimistic the case would succeed.

Angus said staff had started to receive their statutory redundancy payments from the Department of Trade and Industry.

No payout
The Court of Appeal has continued its hard line towards insurance fraud with the decision in Direct Line v Khan.

Direct Line had paid a husband and wife £69,000 on a building and contents policy following a fire, including £8,000 for renting alternative accommodation.

The flat, which the couple said they had rented, was in fact owned by the husband and false documents had been submitted.

The court ruled that even though the home and contents policy had been taken out solely by the wife, the whole claim did not have to be paid, as the husband had committed the rent fraud.

Adams has been with the company for seven years, including nearly three as chief executive.

Admin fee
Anthony Kidd Agencies has introduced an administration fee on its policies.

The wholesale broker, part of Cox's retail division, will charge £5 to issue documentation. A spokeswoman said the fee reflected the high cost of administration.
