The acquisition ties in with Arag’s ‘strong’ investment in the UK legal expenses insurance segment, says managing director

The Arag Group has announced that it is set to acquire Das UK.

Bristol-based Das UK, which was established over 40 years ago, is made up of the Das Legal Expenses Insurance Company, Das Law and Das Services.

It is currently the legal protection insurance business for German insurance group Ergo in the UK.

In a statement released today (17 July 2023), Arag said it had now signed an agreement Ergo Versicherung AG, Ergo Group’s property and casualty insurer in Germany, over the acquisition.

“The international business of the Arag Group is a substantial part of our strategic positioning,” Renko Dirksen, non-executive director at Arag and speaker of the board of management at Arag SE, said.

”[That] said, the planned acquisition of Das UK is a unique opportunity, acquiring a complementary UK business and offering new perspectives for our customers and employees alike.”

’Top-notch products’

Arag and Das UK will continue to operate independently without any changes to business and operations until regulatory approval is met.

Tony Buss, managing director at Arag, said: “We are excited about the opportunities this intended acquisition offers since we are pursuing a long-term strategy, strongly investing in the UK legal expenses insurance segment.

“We intend to offer a ‘best of breed’ portfolio to deliver even broader and better products as well as services to a wider customer base – always putting our customers and business partners first.”

The deal builds on the Arag previously acquiring the operations and business of Das UK’s branch in the Republic of Ireland in February 2019 and the entirety of Ergo Group’s Das business in Canada in March 2021.

Dirksen said: “Combining the profound knowledge and extraordinary skills of both entities will result in top-notch products and services for the benefit of all customers.”
