Insurance Times rounds up the most significant appointments, promotions and leadership changes from 28 July to 1 August 2025
Starting off the week, Lloyd’s Syndicate and MGA Volante Global appointed Demian Smith as its new chief executive.
Smith began his career in the (re)insurance industry in 1995 and has experience working in broking and underwriting sides of the market.
Then, Arch Insurance International appointed David Maher as its new chief information officer.
In this role, Maher will lead the delivery of Arch’s information technology strategy and infrastructure, advancing the adoption of technologies.
Following this, Gallagher Bassett appointed Sarah Penny as its new client services director for UK operations.
In her new role, she will be responsible for looking after Gallagher Bassett’s corporate and carrier client relationships.
After that, Sabre Insurance appointed David Neave to its board as a non-executive director.
Neave has years of experience in the UK general insurance industry, spanning executive, non-executive and advisory roles.
This week also saw the announcement that Matt Brewis is leaving the FCA to join KPMG UK as a partner in its financial services risk and regulatory advisory practice.
Brewis, who is currently director of insurance at the FCA, will take on the new role in the new year.
Rounding off the week, Gallagher appointed Alistair Lester as chief executive of its private equity and M&A client practice.
In his new role, he will lead the firm’s existing transactional risks teams in the UK, Europe and Middle East and oversee the expansion of the practice.
