Magistrate suggests chef cycle to work during six-month ban

Pub chef Michael Douglas Morgan (22) of Pwllgafell, Ffostrasol, was disqualified from driving for six months after pleading guilty to driving with no insurance, the Tivy Side Advertiser reports.

He told magistrates that if he lost his licence it would cause him exceptional hardship through having to walk a mile and a half to work from Capel Cynon.

Morgan, who already had six penalty points on his driving licence, said he worked flexible hours and would have to walk along a busy road to and from work three times a day.

Do you have a bicycle?

Presiding magistrate Ian Rolph, who asked the defendant if he had a bicycle, fined him £240 with £60 costs and £15 victim surcharge.

Disqualifying him from driving for six months Rolph said he and his colleagues found that a driving ban would cause Morgan inconvenience but not exceptional hardship.
