Novae Re ‘in rude health’ says Matthew Fosh

Novae Group has announced a restructure of its reinsurance division, Novae Re, after a number of staff left the firm this year.

The shake-up will affect Novae Re’s London and Zurich branches.

Former Novae political violence and kidnap & ransom/piracy unit head Rob Preston has moved from London to Zurich to become Novae Zurich managing director.

Novae has also hired four staff to run its international property catastrophe and agriculture books.

Arch Re’s Philippe Chevereau will lead the international property catastrophe unit, along with New Re’s Sebastien Ricout. Both men will be based in Zurich.

Novae has hired Endurance’s Clive Hardy and Hanne Wagner to join its agriculture arm.

Elsewhere, Novae has promoted former chief pricing actuary Gareth Christopher to develop its property per risk book.

Former Ark underwriter David May has been hired to lead Novae’s general liability unit.

Novae Group chief executive Matthew Fosh said: “We are sending an unambiguous signal to the market that Novae Re is both central to our corporate plan and also in rude health. We have been hugely gratified by the number of experienced professionals who have sought to join us in recent weeks and we have moved quickly to take advantage ahead of the renewal season.

“The quality of the new team will give us the skills to continue the development of Novae Re in the international market.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
