More than a quarter of all asthma or breathing-difficulty cases could be related to work, revealed a new study by US researchers.
The study found that people working in cleaning, farming and transportation were among the most likely to develop asthma or breathing difficulties as a result of their jobs.
Other professions with a high risk of causing or aggravating asthma were entertainment, protective services, mining, construction, mechanics, textile and fabrication. Freight and vehicle operators were also found to be particularly at risk.
The study estimated that 26% of cases of asthma in adults were caused or aggravated by the workplace environment.
