The Joint Hull Committee has released a draft of its revised institute hull clauses.

The document is being circulated for comment and the final document is due to be released on 1 November Responses are requested by the end of August.

Abbey travel
Abbey National has re-launched its travel insurance cover with lower premiums and made-to-measure cover options.

Abbey National Travel Insurance spokesman Peter Jones claimed the changes meant Abbey National's product was more than £100 cheaper than the comparable Travel Care product from Thomas Cook.

He said the new product also featured an option for single parent families and enabled customers to tailor their policy excess level, maximum length of trip and number of people travelling.

Abbey National also had specialist add-ons: business travel, gold trips, overseas weddings and winter sports.

Ombudsman news
The insurance ombudsman is now publishing its insurance edition of ombudsman news online (www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk).

This includes disputes revolving around telephone conversations and insurance complaints.

Driver policy
UK intermediary Allen and Allen is targeting convicted drivers and drivers of fast cars with a new product called Planet.

The specialist product will also cater for young drivers over 19 and drivers who in live in inner-city areas. Quotations depend on individual circumstances and merits.

Tony Allen of Marker Study Group, of which Planet is a specialist arm, said: "We are offering realistic premiums to those who find it difficult to obtain sensible quotations."

Growing market
Employment practices liability is a growing market, according to industry experts.

Royal & SunAlliance employment practices liability manager Mike Bird said that applications for employment tribunals have risen more than 60% over the past three years and 25% in the past year.

He added that good employment practices are not enough. "The cost of defending an employment claim, even an unfounded one, can be substantial."

Lightning strike
Energy specialist EA Technology has upgraded its lightning flash location system, which provides online pictures of lightning strikes in real time across the British Isles and into northern Europe.

New features include the ability to overlay plots of lightning strikes onto highly detailed local maps, clearer imaging and zoom.
