Andy Haste has been named the Independent's City Businessperson of the Year in the insurance sector.

Analysts put the Royal & SunAlliance chief executive forward as the standout figure in the insurance industry.

UBS analyst Roger Hill said: "Mr Haste didn't start with the best set of cards, but he's managed to turn the business around by sticking at it. R&SA is a completely different company to when he took it over."

The newspaper polled analysts to discover the City of London's Businessperson of the Year across various industries.

Winners in other sectors included Marks & Spencer's Stuart Rose and Lakshmi Mittal.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
