Insurer presses industry demand for better flood defence investment

RBS Insurance (RBSI) has seized on this week’s storms to reiterate the industry’s calls for greater investment in flood defences.

Director of home underwriting, Martin Hall, said: “We want to continue offering flood cover as standard to householders in the future, and call on the government to provide additional funding for the full implementation of Sir Michael Pitt’s final ‘lessons learned’ recommendations this summer.”

The Met Office has issued 31 flood watches as wind gusts of up to 75 mph, along with snow flurries, were expected on coasts and hills across north-west England.

Three coastal regions were put under flood warning by the Met Office as severe winds whipped through parts of the UK. Towns on the south coast, from Chichester harbour to Selsey Bill, and in the South West, along the north Cornwall coast, were on alert as Insurance Times went to press.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
