The owners of an Indian restaurant in Middlesex, which was severely damaged by fire, are taking Norwich Union (NU) to court after the insurer refused to pay their claim.

Sahib's in Northwood, described by its owners Mohun Berry and Harmeet Suri as "a restaurant business and private members' club", suffered the blaze on January 14 this year.

A day later, the owners notified their insurer of the fire and are claiming more than £200,000 to cover general contents, stock in trade and improvements made to the building.

They are also claiming an undisclosed amount for loss of earnings.

NU has refused to indemnify Berry and Suri under the policy and the claim remains outstanding.

NU would not comment on the details of the case, but a spokeswoman for the insurer said "we had concerns about the claim".
