The Consumers' Association recently ripped into the pet insurance sector concerning the huge premiums paid over the lifetime of your pet for insurance you might never need.

Tell that to Lindsay Drew. She wasn't at home when the Christmas lights she had ordered were delivered.

Instead, Sky, her 13-month-old bull terrier, picked up the post and munched her way through 30 lights, glass and copper staples from the packaging.

Lindsay's £23 a month premium seemed a bargain compared with the £600 vet bill resulting from her playful pooch's treatment.

She said: "I doubt Sky has learnt her lesson, but she hasn't been near the new lights yet."
