A London financial publisher said today all its safety risk experts were among 137 people still missing after a meeting in the World Trade Centre when it was struck by terrorists on Tuesday.

Nothing has been heard of anyone believed to have been in Risk Waters Group's meeting on the 106th floor of the North Tower, the first to be hit by a hijacked passenger jet.

It was earlier feared that up to 180 delegates and staff could be dead before executives established that some people had not been in the venue at the time of the crash, which came 20 minutes after the meeting was due to start.

It is hoped they may have been able to evacuate to safety. A spokesman said this morning that 47 delegates and 16 staff, including all the firm's safety risk experts, were unaccounted for.

The firm is trying to find out about a further 74 delegates, after establishing that 100 from other companies had not arrived at the time of the tragedy.

Peter Field, chief executive, said: “In the absence of any concrete news all we can do is to hope and pray that all attendees are safe.”
