More than a third of small businesses are unaware of their legal obligation to hold a workplace fire risk assessment, recent research has found.
BT Redcare released the independent findings of Continental Research as part of its sponsorship of National Fire Safety Week, which ran from September 23 to 30.
The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 oblige businesses to assess the level of fire risk to their employees and premises and put in place precautions
Businesses can be prosecuted for failing to do so, yet BT Redcare's research also showed that, of the 64% of companies who were aware of their fire risk obligations, 30% admitted they did not carry them out.
