New research shows 40% of fleet decision makers have yet to set up schemes to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and mobile phone use.
The survey of nearly 300 people, carried out by motor claims management specialist Claimsplus and Fleet News, showed 40% were not planning to introduce any driver safety initiatives in the next year.
Running safety initiatives were shown to have resulted in lower insurance premiums for 12% of respondents.
The findings showed the number of accidents following the introduction of safety initiatives had decreased in 17% of cases, while 6% said vehicle repairs had been reduced and 6% had received both benefits.
Claimsplus head of sales and marketing Nigel Rolfe said: "It is astonishing that so many fleet decision-makers have not done anything to reduce driver risk, and that so many have no plans to do so over the next 12 months.
"Fleets that have adopted a safety culture have seen many benefits."
