Serious Fraud Office director Richard Alderman has pledged a lenient approach to facilitation payments – so long as companies are working towards eradicating them.

In an exclusive interview with Insurance Times, Alderman said he would not stick to the letter of the law – which comes into force on 1 July – so long as companies were moving towards compliance.

He said the process could take anything from 12 months to five years.
