Bristol lectures
The Insurance Institute of Bristol recently launched a series of in-company lectures for employees in the Bristol Insurance and Financial Services market.
AMP job cuts plan
Australian financial services group AMP has unveiled the details of its plans to cut 1200 jobs in the UK as part of a plan to save £100m over the next 18 months.
Its financial services business in the UK consists of insurers AMP Pearl, AMP London Life and AMP NPI. It also owns Towry Law independent financial advisers.
The group said it would reduce staff numbers by more than 20% in Peterborough, Tunbridge Wells, Cardiff, Bristol, Bracknell and London.
Liability fears
The lack of liability cover available to the market is reaching dangerous levels, a leading broker has warned.
Dallas Kirkland managing director Robin Kirkland said: "Worryingly for many brokers and their clients, some Lloyd's underwriters and specialist liability insurers are beginning to turn away new and renewal requests for liability cover."
He added that this was because premium increases had eroded the insurers' underwriting capacity for the year too quickly.
Sirius sells system
Insurance technology provider Sirius Financial Systems has sold its Sirius for Underwriting software to the Insurance Corporation of Barbados, the largest and only publicly listed general insurance company in Barbados.
Lessons for Levene
Lloyd's new chairman Lord Levene will work at reinsurance broker Benfield Greig for at least three months before taking the reins.
As the first outsider to take charge of the 314-year-old market, he has decided to learn from the broker rather than "rushing around bringing in new business".
