Temple Legal Protection has lined up behind DAS to blast the Law Society's new Accident Line Protect Scheme.

Temple underwriting director Chris Wait criticised the society's threat to take legal action over recent comments made by DAS about the scheme.

“Now that the Law Society has entered the commercial game, they should learn to take criticism without throwing their dummy out of the pram,” he said.

Wait said the society had put incredibly high premiums on multi-track cases, offered too much cover, made schemes compulsory and restricted solicitors' choice of policy.

“With Accident Line premiums being so much higher than most other premiums in the market, it's questionable whether they'll be regarded as reasonable by opponents and courts and therefore recoverable in full,” he said.

“The Law Society, in my opinion, has unfairly endorsed one product that restricts the choice of policy to just theirs.”

Wait said there were numerous alternatives in the market that offered a better deal for solicitors and their clients.
