Car insurance premiums have risen by 3.5% in the last quarter, according to research by Tesco Motor Insurance.
Tesco's second quarterly 'Car Insurance Checkout' results were released today and revealed that in some areas men drivers faced a rise of 9% for their car insurance premiums.
Simon Blacklock, head of insurance operations at Tesco Motor Insurance said: "The national increase of 3.5% for just one quarter is a worrying trend for the cash strapped motorist and is five times greater than inflation."
The results compare prices from various insurers across UK regions.
The survey found the average cost of car insurance in the UK was £453. The North West, which offered premiums 16% above the national average at £539, remained the most expensive region. The South West replaced East Anglia as the cheapest region at 12% below the national average with an cost of £397.
The average cost of motor insurance on the South Coast increased the most by 6.5% to £427. The South East experienced the largest decrease at 3% down to £454.
