Art and insurance are not obvious cohorts, but the two merged at a recent Hiscox art show.

The private showing of works by Matisse and Hockney meant that bright young artists rubbed shoulders with men in grey suits so obviously from the insurance world.

But Backchat was impressed to find that we could not be so clearly defined. One young lady asked Backchat: "Are you an artist or in insurance?" After some hesitation, wondering whether to lie about being an artist who was looking for a muse, Backchat found his conscience and admitted it was insurance.

"I am as well. I work for Hiscox," said the disappointed young lady as she walked away looking for more interesting conversation.
