Norwich Union used to insure nearly every motorbike in Britain. Then it pulled out of the market. Then it came back in again. But it has outsourced to India and bikers in the UK are having some bizarre experiences.

One two-wheeled adventurer was recently unfortunate enough to discover that a building had suddenly collapsed on his parked up pride and joy – a BMW GS Adventure –- the type of bike Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman travelled the world The Long Way Round.

It was days before anyone could get near it. Then days more before a crane eventually picked it up and took it away for disposal.

Last week he got a phone call from an NU Indian call centre asking “if I knew beforehand that the office building was going to collapse on to my bike”.

Backchat gets the impression that sometimes the scripts call centre staff are given need rewriting.
