Stolen vehicle recovery system Tracker recovered £2.3m worth of vehicles in July, an increase of more than a third on the same month in 2001.
Incidents of theft of vehicles involving key theft also increased from 19 in July last year to 35 this year.
Passenger cars accounted for £1.8m of this month's recoveries, heavy good vehicles and vans totalled £252,000, and plant and equipment a further £208,000.
The recoveries included a £485,000 Mercedes, a £446,000 BMW and a £245,000 Audi.
