NCD cut to recover cost of loss adjuster who refused claim

Surrey Trading Standards Officer Steve Playle is seeking evidence of insurers cutting motor no claims discounts (NCDs) even when they refuse the claim after the Post Office did just that.

The Post Office refused a claim for a car stolen from a motor repairers after it had failed its MOT. They then insisted the telephone conversation between the insured and the loss adjuster had cost £167 and wiped out three years of the insured’s seven year NCD.

“This should never have happened and I'm still left feeling slightly bemused that anyone can be penalised if an insurance claim fails. If this has happened to anyone else, please let me know,” Playle wrote in the Guardian, after getting the NCD reinstated.
