The vast majority of UK repairers do not know how to repair Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) powered vehicles, according to a new survey by claims management specialist, Claims Plus.

The survey was conducted among repairers throughout the UK following publication of a recent report entitled "Environmental Impacts of Road Users". Survey findings showed: 75% of repairers did not know how to repair LPG vehicles; only one third were aware of the necessary safety standards when repairing LPG vehicles; only one third knew specialist equipment is required to repair LPG vehicles; and 28% had LPG vehicle repair experience.

Lorraine Wright, a director of Claims Plus, called on the insurance sector to ensure LPG drivers were not punished as a consequence of this skills and experience shortage.

She said: "We must ensure that LPG drivers do not have to pay higher premiums because of difficulties in repairing their cars."
