Brits are being charged more than American residents when hiring a car in the US, despite Britain having one of the lowest accident rates in the world.
Assistant editor of Holiday Which? Roger Lakin explained that the differentiation in price by nationality could be due to the fact that US citizens are covered by their own insurance policies when renting a car.
Research by Condé Nast Traveler magazine found car hire firms Hertz and Avis charging Britons and other nationalities up to 74% more than Americans when letting out a car.
A spokesperson for the Automobile Association (AA) said: "People have a right to be annoyed.
"It's not fair and no-one one would say that it is reasonable to be discriminated against on the basis of where you live rather than your driving skills."
