Backchat was honoured to speak to a stalwart of the insurance industry this week.

A man, who in 1937 at the age of 16, got his first job at a small insurance company, before heading off to war.

Now, after 70 years in the sector, and still with no plans to retire, this oldie of insurance seemed rather less enthusiastic about the industry than he would have been “back in his day”.

His advice to young, budding brokers keen to join the insurance industry: “Don’t do it.”

If this is the reaction of the insurance industry’s old guard, what does the future hold?
