Lord Hunt welcomed the Lord Chancellor's commitment to combating the emergence of a UK compensation culture today.
Lord Falconer had told delegates at the Insurance Times Future of Personal Injury Claims conference that the government was forming an action group in response to the Better Regulation Task Force report “Better Routes to Redress”.
Lord Hunt said the speech was “potentially historic” if “words are put into action".
Speaking about the importance of rehabilitation Lord Hunt said Lord Falconer's speech signalled a “breakthrough” in the governments approach to rehabilitation.
“The concept of occupational health had been neglected for far too long,' said Lord Hunt. “This is all about to change.”
Working parties must be a “prelude to change.”
Putting rehabilitation on the political agenda as well as creating a new approach to personal injury claims is the way to move forward, he said.
He told delegates achieving this would only be possible if different party's involved in the rehabilitation process worked together to adopt a best practice.
