Zurich Municipal has launched a best practice guide designed to reduce the number of fraudulent claims made against Housing Associations and Local Authorities.

The guide demonstrates how to prevent, detect and investigate fraudulent claims amidst growing concerns about the number of false claims being made.

Recent research carried out by Zurich Municipal found that one in five Housing Associations and a quarter of Local Authorities believe that fraudulent claims have a significant impact on resources, with a further 63% expecting the problem to grow.

This new guide will help public services combat the growing concern of fraud by illustrating the steps that can be taken to make it harder for bogus claimants to succeed. It also suggests ways of increasing protection through the implementation of regular inspections and the compilation of claimant and witness profiles.

Steve Jackson, Zurich Municipal's National Fraud Controller, said: "Fraudulent claims are one of the biggest headaches for our customers. This new advice guide is designed to assist them by highlighting ways in which they can more effectively manage risk and reduce the costs associated with spurious claims."
