Insurer issues financial metrics to reassure the market

AIG UK has issued a financial update for 2008.

The insurer said it expects to publish its full Annual Report and Accounts in April.

"In the meantime the following financial highlights demonstrate another year of underwriting profit," said AIG UK.

According to the 2008 update, AIG UK posted a pre-tax profit of £324m.

Its gross written premiums were almost £2.3bn, while net written premiums were £1.1bn.

Its underwriting profit was £84m in 2008, while its combined ratio worsened slightly to 91.9% (2007: 89.2%).
