Former Lloyds boss no longer a candidate for new chairman role, say reports
Aviva has dropped former Lloyds chief executive Eric Daniels from the shortlist of candidates to become its new chairman after complaints from investors, according to reports.
The FT reported that a number of large UK shareholders had told Aviva that Daniels, who has been strongly criticised for Lloyds’ disastrous takeover of HBOS in the financial crisis, would not be acceptable as the insurer's new chairman.
Aviva has drawn up a shortlist of candidates to join its board as a director with a view to becoming chairman when current chair Lord Sharman steps down in 2013.
The shortlist is thought to have narrowed to three candidates, the FT said.
Other names in the frame include Lord Myners and Lord Davies, both former Labour government ministers.
Aviva appointed headhunting firm Zygos to help it with the search. The appointment is expected to be confirmed in a couple of weeks.
