Giles has appointed Matthew Scales as a non executive director, Insurance Times can reveal.

Scales was previously an executive director and finance director at Brit Insurance.

He led the finance, actuarial and investment functions within the insurer.

George Prescott, non-executive chairman of Giles, said: “The board would like to welcome Matthew to Giles.

"His experience in the sector and background in the international insurance/reinsurance sector across Lloyds and the London Market will be a great asset to us going forward.”

Giles chief executive Chris Giles said: “We are delighted to welcome Matthew to Giles and look forward to drawing on his exceptional experience and expertise.

"This appointment reflects the changing needs of Giles as we continue to grow organically and through acquisition.”

In its latest accounts, revealed yesterday by Insurance Times, Giles posted a loss after tax of £37.1m in the year to 31 August 2010, compared with a loss of £22.7m in the previous financial year.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
