Aviva and Admiral switch supplier after administrators called in
Insurers have moved quickly to fill the gap left by Auto Windscreens after it fell into administration on Monday.
Aviva, which did not renew its contract with Auto Windscreens in December, has now signed a new deal with rival firm Autoglass.
Admiral signed a three-year deal with Auto Windscreens in December, but has now switched to National Windscreens, a spokesman confirmed.
An Aviva spokesman said: “Aviva is aware that Auto Windscreens, our main supplier of windscreen repairs, has gone into administration.
“We want to reassure our brokers and customers that we have secured a deal with Autoglass to handle our customers’ current and future windscreen repair needs.
“We are working with our new supplier to ensure that our customers’ existing repairs are prioritised, and will make every effort in working with both suppliers to ensure a smooth handover of work from Auto Windscreens to Autoglass. All customers’ future windscreen repair calls will be booked with Autoglass, with immediate effect."
Chesterfield-based Auto Windscreens had an annual turnover of around £63m and employs 1100 staff.
It was put into the hands of administrators after talks to recapitalise the business broke down. It also faced a winding-up petition from an unnamed creditor.
Its operations have been “temporarily suspended” while administrators assess the situation and review offers for the business.
