SSP insurance solution to support Mapledown launch

Lockton International’s new managing general agent (MGA), Mapledown, is to use SSP’s insurance policy administration and underwriting solution as it prepares to launch.

Mapledown is launching a suite of products targeted at SME clients. Insurance Times reported in January that Lockton had hired its senior underwriting team.

"As a start-up, we wanted an easy-to-use system that would allow us to be self-sufficient, and which could also be easily developed and customised in-house," says Kenny Thorpe, chief underwriting officer at Mapledown.

"Most importantly, we wanted a solution that could provide us with all of these benefits straight out of the box, which is exactly what SSP has delivered."

Laurence Walker, chief executive officer at SSP, said: "As Mapledown's business is expected to grow very quickly, it was important for it to have the in-house capability to develop and launch new products quickly across a range of distribution channels."

"However, in the current climate insurers and MGAs are not only looking for innovative IT solutions, they want the certainty that they will be up and running quickly. SSP has again delivered on both counts, providing Mapledown with a great platform for its future success."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
