Markel international has reorganised Markel UK, its retail division, expanding the role of boss Steve Carroll.

Markel said the move will create a stronger platform to develop retail business worldwide.

Carroll, who has been responsible for growing Markel UK since its formation in 1990, has been appointed to a wider retail role.

He is now director of retail and the overall head of all Markel International's retail businesses both in the UK and overseas, and sits on the board of Markel International.

Simon Fell has been promoted to divisional managing director of Markel UK, replacing Carroll in his former role.

Markel International chief operating officer William Stovin said: "The reorganisation reflects the achievements of both Steve and Simon in building our UK business.

"I am confident that Steve's retail knowledge and experience will enable us to expand beyond the UK and open up new markets for our products. Equally, Simon will continue to develop and enhance our reputation in the UK marketplace."
