Markel International has appointed Abhishek Chhajer to lead its trade credit business in the Asia Pacific region.

He will be based in the company’s Singapore office, which underwrites on behalf of Markel`s wholly owned syndicate 3000 at Lloyd`s.

Chhajer will work closely with Peter Phillips, managing director of Markel International Singapore and with Ewa Rose, managing director of Markel International’s trade credit division, and its London team.

Markel said the appointment is part of its strategy to develop its global trade credit business in Asia.

Chhajer will be responsible for local business development, policy servicing and risk underwriting.

He was previously head of commercial and the deputy country head of Atradius India.

Rose said: “Having worked in the region and in the trade credit business for nearly ten years Abhishek has a range of well established contacts who will be valuable as we grow our business in the region.

"We are focused very much on large and mid-sized companies across a range of sectors and we are looking to continue to support the development of the trade credit team and business in Singapore and elsewhere in the Asian and Australasian region."
