Hammers sue FA and insurers over injured striker
West Ham United has taken legal action against the FA and its insurers over the injury suffered by ex-striker Dean Ashton, according to vice-chairman Karren Brady.
The Hammers are seeking compensation after Ashton suffered ankle damage in August 2006 while on England duty, forcing him to retire last year.
In her diary for The Sun, Brady wrote: "My patience has snapped as today (Friday 19 November) I have instructed West Ham's QC to send two writs - one to the FA and one to their insurers over compensation for Dean Ashton's career-ending injury.
"Besides the physical cost of losing a £10m player, there are a number of add-ons such as finding a replacement for Ashton and potential rewards lost on league placings.
"We will fight to the end for the compensation that is due to us on both moral and financial grounds."
The FA said it could not comment on the ongoing legal dispute.
