A round-up of the latest insurance stories online

Look who’s back on the top of the pile again this week. The FSA loves making bold statements, and its lifetime ban handed out to broker chief executive David Marriott certainly stood out in a list of big-hitting stories.

Pushing it closely, though, was another broker spat in which Oval secured a settlement over legal action taken against Butterworth Spengler for restrictive covenant breaches by ex-employees. It was another case of ‘here we go again’ as our online readers clambered onto the site.

There was also plenty of intrigue when Insurance Times broke the news that underwriting agency Ink was about to launch an assault on the solicitors’ professional indemnity insurance market after tying up capacity to launch a new facility. Keep an eye out for updates as the renewal season approaches.

And there was plenty more RBSI news to keep our online readers ticking over. The bank-owned insurer went into the bank holiday on the back of its decision to shut 14 offices and came out of it swamped by reports that it was reconsidering its options for divestment.

Legendary investor Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway also resurfaced as a potential bidder. Those reports were widespread across the web.
