Year established: 1863

Parent: Baloise Holding

History: On May 2, 1863, five prominent citizens of Basel founded the Baloise Fire Insurance Company, a year later in 1964, they went on to establish the Baloise transport insurance company and the Baloise life insurance company.

A little less than 100 years later (in 1958) the latter transferred its accident insurance business to Baloise accident insurance, a company set up especially for this purpose, although these companies were loosely connected with one another. In 1962, Baloise-Holding was set up as a holding company for the Baloise companies which up until then had been independent entities.
In 1971, this was followed by the next logical step – the merger of the non-life companies to form the Baloise Insurance Group.
