Planned premium increases in wake of flooding are 'too much too soon'

Biba has slammed announcements from insurers that property premiums will increase by 10% following the floods in the UK this summer.

Graeme Trudgill, technical services manager at Biba, commented: “This is a knee jerk reaction from some direct insurers and is somewhat opportunistic. The market for home insurance is very competitive.

“Insurers and the insurance market have responded well to the recent floods. It is important now that insurers concentrate on the flood claims and the government commits to improving flood defences.

“Consumers should be aware that they can obtain alternative quotes from an insurance broker who will advise them on finding the most appropriate and competitive policy.

"Biba has specialist brokers who will help find the most suitable policies in the market.

“Consumers should not just focus on price, but should ensure that they are purchasing the cover which meets their needs.”
