A total of 158 graduates of the CII's Fellowship, Associateship and Diploma in Insurance programmes were presented at a special ceremony to mark the start of the CII's UK Insurance & Financial Services conference today.

CII President Rick Hudson and CII director general Dr Sandy Scott presented each graduate with a commemorative badge in front of an audience of 500 family and employer representatives.

Guest of honour Walter Merricks, the financial services ombudsman, acknowledged the professional commitment of the new graduates during his opening presentation.

He said: "Professionalism is alive and well in the insurance industry; it fosters a sense of confidence among customers and colleagues. Life-long learning to maintain standards of technical competence and professionalism is one of today's essentials."

Eleven newly elected Fellows were presented during the ceremony. Fellowship (FCII) is the highest CII qualification. Associates who demonstrate further professional development including a major achievement may apply for election to Fellowship.

Also recognised were 87 people who completed their Associateship (ACII) studies.

The Diploma in Insurance (Dip CII) is firmly established as the leading technical and supervisory qualification for those working across all sectors of the insurance industry. Sixty people were presented.
